Angel Tree at Foothills Baptist Church

We are once again partnering with Angel Tree to provide gifts to children who have a mom or dad in prison. Through Angel Tree, Foothills has the opportunity to help a child strengthen his/her relationship with a parent by providing a present on behalf of the prisoner.

Beginning November 30th, you can select a tag from the Foothills Trees located in the Lobby or Fellowship Hall. Once you’ve selected a tag, purchase the gift listed and return it to the church no later than December 14th. All gifts should be returned unwrapped and should cost no more than $25.

If you have any questions, please email Penny Wilson.

Thanksgiving Food Bag for Rio Vista

Foothills Baptist Church participates in an annual Thanksgiving Food Bag Drive to collect food for families who would not otherwise have a Thanksgiving meal. With the generosity from our church, our goal is to completely fill 160 Thanksgiving Food Bags to be distributed by Rio Vista Center.

Rio Vista Center is a Southern Baptist Mission; many of the surrounding Southern Baptist churches also support Rio Vista. Thanksgiving Food Bags are just one initiative put on by this giving organization. Rio Vista offers the community a food/clothing closet and job support as well as running New Life Pregnancy Center, helping young families and single moms in any way they can.

Our church continues to step up to the challenge – we invite you to do so again this year. This is a great way to show the love of Jesus to others. If you have children, it is also a great teaching opportunity to demonstrate to your children the act of giving and caring. Shop with them and have conversations about why you’re filling a bag with food.

Food Bag Details

Basha’s has generously provided us with the paper bags that will be filled; volunteers have stapled a shopping list to each bag. To participate, all you need to do is pickup a bag on Sunday morning (starting November 9), purchase the listed items and return the filled bag to Foothills Baptist by November 20. In addition to the items listed, we are requesting a $10 check payable to FBC accompany each bag. This money is used to purchase a turkey for the family.

Traditionally, a team of men deliver the majority of the bags to Rio Vista for distribution and the remainder of the bags are delivered directly to families whom we have supported through the years.

If you have questions, please email Sharon Pace.

Awana News

We had a great first week of Awana! There is always a little chaos trying to get everyone to the right class, right room, etc. We are so glad you have chosen to have your child participate in Awana this year!

Awana Themes

If you have not visited the Awana page on our website, you’ll find it here. On that page, you can view the Awana calendar. Each week we have a special theme that will earn the kids extra points to spend at our store later in the year. Kids also earn points from bringing their Bible, wearing their uniform, bringing their handbook and attending Sunday School (at any church!). This week’s theme? Bring a Friend! We encourage you to invite your neighbors and school friends!

Order Forms

On that same web page, under Awana Resources (look on the menu on the left), you can also find each club’s order form. So, if you have not ordered your child a handbook or uniform for this year, you can download the order form and bring it with you. We will have extra copies here as well on Wednesday night. We can accept cash, check or credit card. If money is a problem, please just let me know. We will not let money keep anyone from participating in Awana! If you have already placed your order, please be patient in waiting on things to arrive. Awana Headquarters is experiencing high traffic at the moment, and orders are taking much longer than normal.

Cubbie Parents

There is also a link to the Cubbie Calendar. It will tell you what Bear Hug your child will need to work on to be prepared for each week. Each Bear Hug also contains some extra work called Under the Apple Tree. Your child will not have to do the extra work to earn their book award; but if you are looking for some more activities to do with them, it would give you a good start.

Safety Notice

One of our Awana clubbers has a severe allergy to peanuts. While our church has a no-nut policy for snacks served in the preschool and children’s area, we also wanted to alert you to this allergy. If your child eats peanuts—or peanut butter—during the day, please have them wash their hands and face before coming to Awana. Even residue can cause this child to have an allergic reaction. We don’t want to keep your child from eating peanut butter, but we also want to keep this child safe. We appreciate your help with this safety concern!

Ways to Volunteer

We are always looking for substitutes or other helpers for Awana. If you are interested in helping with check-in (from 6:15-6:40, or so), handbook time or game time, please send me an email. We can set up a time to meet, do a background check and find the right spot for you!

We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday at 6:30 PM!

P.S.: Don’t forget that children’s choir starts this week at 5:00 PM, if your child (Kindergarten-5th grade) would like to join us!
