A Sermon So Great The Preacher Got Fired

The phrase mic drop, now an official word as it’s included in the Oxford Dictionary, refers to an instance of deliberately dropping or tossing aside one’s microphone at the end of a performance or speech that was understood or seen to be particularly impressive. When we read Luke 4:16-30 Jesus gives an amazing message as He tells them that passage has been literally been fulfilled right in front of them.

Scripture: Isaiah 61:1-2; Luke 4:16-30

The True and Better Israel

Where Israel failed when tested in the wilderness, Jesus succeeded. His is the true and better Israel. He has been tempted like us in every way, yet without sin. And so he’s our example as we face temptation each day. He does things God’s way, not his own. He reveals the empty promises of idols. He speaks scripture to clear the fog of illusion brought by temptation. And lastly, he chooses total dependence on God whatever it may bring, rather than a life free of suffering and comfort.

Scripture: Luke 4:1-13
