We all struggle and fight with the tension we feel to give our attention to what matters most. Life presses in on us from the outside. We are concerned with global crises, national problems, issues in our city, and then there are our own lives. We face trouble at work, in our families, on the team. We face emotional or spiritual struggles, and physical ills that cause us to suffer in ways we never imagined.
These things capture our attention and arrest us. We can’t look away. We’re consumed by them. But John the Baptist steps into our world, as he did his own, and cries out to us – “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” Jesus is the One who should arrest our attention, consume our thoughts, and occupy our hearts.
