Paul’s urgent journey to Jerusalem after 14 years of ministry was about defending the pure gospel against false teachers who insisted that faith in Christ wasn’t enough for salvation. These teachers demanded that Gentile converts also follow Jewish laws and customs. Paul brought Titus, a Greek believer, as a test case to prove that salvation comes through faith in Christ alone, not faith plus human performance. The gospel offers freedom from condemnation and freedom for service, but when we add requirements to faith in Christ, we empty the gospel of its power. Paul’s partnership with the other apostles shows us that churches should be distribution centers for the gospel, not storage units, as we work together to reach different cultures while preserving the truth.
