Sometimes we’re oblivious to the obvious. The truth or reality is right in front of us, but we don’t see it. Sometimes we miss it because it’s a mistake, but sometimes we miss it through neglect, and that’s tragic. The Pharisees confront Jesus in this text because they’re oblivious to the obvious. Their rules blind them to what true religion, what faith in Christ should be. The big idea is this: Keeping religious rules weighs you down and wears you out, but trusting Jesus gives life and hope now and forever.
