In Matthew 2:13-23 Matthew connects the coming of Jesus to three trusted Old Testament prophets, and makes the case that Jesus is more than a peasant prophet from Galilee. He is God’s long-expected Messiah bringing God’s kingdom into the world. And Jesus has come to set us free from “Egypt” and bring us home; to give us life and a steady hope in the face of death; and he came to save those who despise and reject him.
