The Colossians were being threatened with spiritual identity theft. Paul writes to encourage them that they are true Christians, and to see to it that no one takes them captive, judges them, disqualifies them or seeks to control them by telling them that they are not who Christ says that they are in Him. In 3:1-11 Paul sets their new reality for them in V1-4 – Christians have a new life in Christ; in V5-10 he tells them that they must now say goodbye to their old life; and in V11 he points them to the church, God’s new creation on earth, the place where this new life in Christ is lived out and put on display to the world.

Scripture: Col. 3:1-11
