The Christian life involves an intense spiritual battle between the Holy Spirit and our sinful nature. When we become believers, the Holy Spirit creates new desires that oppose our old patterns of sin. This internal conflict is actually evidence that God is working in us, not a sign of spiritual failure. The flesh produces destructive behaviors like sexual immorality, anger, and division, while the Spirit produces Christ-like qualities such as love, joy, peace, and self-control. Victory comes through understanding that our sinful nature has already been defeated at conversion and actively depending on the Spirit’s power rather than our own willpower.
