Life inevitably brings suffering, but for Christians, pain isn’t pointless. Peter teaches that believers should expect hardship as part of following Christ, yet we can find purpose in our struggles. When we suffer for our faith, we share in a small way what Christ endured for us. This creates deeper intimacy with Jesus, who truly understands our pain. God uses suffering to purify us from sin, remind us of eternal priorities, strengthen genuine faith, and provide witness opportunities to the world. Because Christ already bore God’s judgment for our sins, our suffering serves as sanctification rather than condemnation, transforming meaningless pain into purposeful growth.
