The Book of Proverbs begins with a foundational truth: the fear of the Lord is where wisdom starts. Fearing God does not mean trembling in terror but rather acknowledging His sovereignty over every area of life and surrendering our desire to do things our own way. Solomon warns against the influence of sinful companions and the slow, gradual drift toward foolishness that can happen when we stop paying attention. Wisdom is personified as a woman crying out in the streets, pleading with anyone who will listen to turn from folly before it is too late. Two paths are set before every person: one leads to destruction, and the other leads to security and peace. Jesus Christ is wisdom incarnate, and it is only through faith in Him that anyone can truly live a God-fearing life.
