The Cross of Jesus and the Crucified Life

The path of Matthew 1-16 brings us to Peter’s declaration that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Now Jesus tells his disciples that as Messiah he will be the sacrifice to save his people from their sin, and then his disciples must walk with Jesus on the same path. So we must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus. Like Jesus we must surrender ourselves completely to God and die to a life driven by worldly pursuits. There are 3 realities here: The Cross Jesus must Bear; the Cross we must Bear; the Promise for Which we must wait.

Scripture: Matt. 16:21-28
