Ezra 7 presents a simple but powerful three-part pattern for faithful Christian living: study the Word, do the Word, and teach the Word. Ezra was not remarkable because of his impressive priestly lineage. He was remarkable because he deliberately set his heart to know God’s instruction, live it out personally, and pass it on to others. God’s hand was on him as a result, moving even a pagan Persian king to support his mission. This pattern is not reserved for pastors or scholars. Every believer is called to a royal priesthood, which means knowing, living, and sharing God’s Word. When any one of these three steps is missing or out of order, the result is hypocrisy, error, or false teaching. The good news is that the same God who blessed Ezra’s faithfulness is at work in your life today.
