The Tender Mercy of God

The story of Zechariah and Elizabeth reveals three powerful dimensions of God’s mercy that transform our understanding of who God is. First, God shows practical mercy – mercy we can see and celebrate, like the miraculous birth of John the Baptist to an elderly, childless couple. Second, God demonstrates promised mercy – His faithfulness to ancient covenants and His commitment to send a Savior. Finally, God displays tender mercy – the deep, personal compassion illustrated in Jesus’ parables of the Good Samaritan and the prodigal son. Jesus comes as the sunrise from on high, breaking through spiritual darkness to guide those who are lost in sin toward the way of peace.

Scripture: Luke 1:57-80
