When tragedy breaks into and over our lives, and the pain and suffering threaten to overwhelm us, it becomes tough to trust in God, his promises, his goodness. What seemed natural and easy suddenly becomes work, or inconceivable. But this Psalm of Lament teaches us how to Trust God in the Dark. Of the 150 Psalms, about 1/3 of them are Psalms of Lament. And a biblical lament is a prayer in pain that leads to trust. It is the honest cry of a hurting heart wrestling with the paradox of pain and God’s promises.

Scripture: Psalm 13, 55, 77, 31:12, 14; 71:10-11, 14; Rom. 8; Ps. 56:8-11
